Annual Events Calendar 2006

Oct 7 - Twin Pike Family YMCA Mississippi River Run. First Saturday in October. Annual Run from Illinois to Missouri across the Mississippi River on the Champ Clark Bridge. Participants arrive prior to 8:30 am and a bus/van transports participants to the Lighthouse Inn on the Illinois side of the bridge. The race starts at 8:30 am. You run across the bridge and finish at the YMCA. Trophies awarded to 1st Male and 1st Female overall in the 5K race; medals awarded for first three places in each age category for 5K and 1 mile.

2005 YMCA Runners/Walkers

The Golden Hills Writer's Club - meets the 2nd Wednesday every month at the Cozy Corner Book Store, 614 Georgia Street. Writer's and aspiring writers are encouraged to attend. New members are always welcome. Membership is FREE.

Oct 21 & 22 - The Louisiana Garden Club Tour of Homes (formerly Great Mansion Tour). Annual event is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday October 21 and 22, 11:00 am to 4:00 pm.

Oct 21 & 22 - Louisiana Country Colorfest - Annual Colorfest on the Riverfront. Parade begins 10:00 AM Saturday. Talent Show, Car Show, Motorcycle Show, Baby Show Contest, Food, Crafts, Vendors, Kids Corner, entertainment for all ages.

November - Festival of Wreaths - A wreath decorating competition sponsored by the Louisiana Business and Professional Women, Friday, November 25- immediately follow the parade. Wreaths are judged in the Victorian, Original~Theme Based, Traditional and Best of Show categories. Proceeds benefit the Scholarship Funds. The wreaths will be displayed at various businesses downtown until the day of the event. They are then displayed at 314 Georgia beginning at 5:00 pm and are available for purchase with auction bidding at 7:00 pm. Refreshments will be available.

50 Miles of Art is an arts corridor where fine artists, craftsperson's and artisans use their skills to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces. The Studio Tours are hosted twice each year by the artisans along the 50 Miles of Art. See the behind-the-scenes view of how their work is created.

Winter Wonderland Celebration is an event sponsored by the Louisiana/BONCL Girl Scouts. This celebration includes the Winter Wonderland Parade, starting at the high school and finishing at Main Street. The arrival of Santa Claus is one of the highlights. Luminaries will line Georgia Street in downtown Louisiana and church bells will ring prior to the start of the parade. Other highlights include the lighting of the city Christmas tree. Miss Snow Queen, Junior Miss Snow Queen, Miss Snowflake and Mr. Frosty contests will be held.

Louisiana Area Historical Museum's Annual Fall Dinner The dinner will be catered and served by the Bethel A.M.E. Church women. A small Silent Auction will be held throughout the evening with proceeds going to the Museum's Building Fund. Volunteers will be recognized and honored.

Dec 10 - Pike Pioneer Nutrition Center, 521 Georgia St., will hold an "Old Fashion Christmas Breakfast" beginning at 8:30 am to 10:30 am. There will be a guest speaker at 9:15 am with St. Nick at 10:00 am. The menu includes biscuits and gravy, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, pancakes an fruit. Drinks will include wassil, a holiday English drink. Advance tickets are $6 and $6.50 at the door. Tickets may be purchased at the Nutrition Center, Mercantile Bank, Bank of Louisiana, or from any Pike Pioneer Board member. All proceeds will go to the Pike County Council on Aging nutrition program.

Dec 10 and Dec 17 - Santa Claus will be arriving by Fire Truck at Whittle Shortline Railroad, 600 S. Main Street on Saturday, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17 from 1:00 to 5:00. Hot chocolate, cookies and punch will be served as the little ones give Santa their wish list!!

December 11 - 11th Annual Church Walk - The Louisiana Area Historical Museum hosts the annual Christmas Mid-town Church Walk on Dec 11.

The Church Walk starts at 3:00pm at the Bethel A.M.E. Church, 7th & South Carolina Streets. After a 15 minute program at each Church, all "Walk" attendees walk as a group to the
(1) Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, 600 South Carolina Street
(2) First Baptist Church, 7th and South Carolina Streets
(3) Centenary United Methodist Church, 7th and South Carolina Streets
(4) Calvary Episcopal Church, 704 Georgia Street
(5) First Presbyterian Church, 121 South Eighth Street.
(6) After the 15 minute program at the Presbyterian Church, cookies and warm cider is served by the Louisiana Area Historical Museum Board of Directors.

The Church Walk is free, with a one-time passing of a plate for a free-will offering for the Museum.

This is the 11th year the Louisiana Area Historical Museum has held the "Christmas Walking Tour of Louisiana's Mid-town Churches", lovingly referred to as "The Church Walk"..... December 11, 2005!!!!!

January 28 & 29, 2006 - Winter River Festival - . A celebration of Louisiana; winter in the midwest, the Mississippi River, Best of Missouri Hands, A Missouri Wine Festival, local artists, local businesses, local clubs and organizations.

The Best of Missouri Hands Artisans,
a non-profit organization dedicated to the development and recognition of Missouri artisans. Some of the mediums of the artisans include glass and bead jewelry, kimono designs, clay, scroll, saw art, wood designs, weavers, baskets, pottery and others. Activities at the riverfront include rides in a covered wagon and a Wild Bird Sanctuary display.

The most popular event was the Polar Plunge, a fundraiser for the Special Olympics. Participants are always welcome !

June 17 - River Rock 2006 Concert - All bands are of high quality and entertain with alternative rock music. Most of the bands agree to be on hand before their set to talk to people and answer questions about music and other aspects of their life.

The event is FREE ! ! . All proceeds will benefit Louisiana Community Betterment (LCB).

July - July 4 celebration at Riverfront. 6:00 until close of Fireworks thanks to Deviation Sight and Sound: Rob Brown, DJ.

Fireworks Display by Steve Hall begins at the riverfront at 9:00 PM.

July 15 - Folk Music Concert - the second weekend in July, 7:00 PM. Folk music concert scheduled based upon the success of River Rock concert. Bring your lawn chairs, kick back and listen to the music as the world goes by on Louisiana's beautiful Riverfront. The events are FREE !

July 25 - 29 - 2006 Pike County Fair - Experience the Mix in 2006. Miranda Lambert and Keith Anderson are the music headliners for 2006. Opening the music on Main Stage is Debra Ingram. Debra, a native of Bowling Green, MO grew up listening to classic country sounds. Debra begins at 7:00 pm, followed by Keith Anderson at 8:00 pm and then Miranda Lambert at 9:00 pm.

YMCA FUN RUN - The Twin Pike Family YMCA invites you to join in the fun this July 4th for the 2nd Annual 5K Relay FUN RUN. Registrations are available at the YMCA for anyone wishing to participate. This event will begin at Wallace Memorial Park and take route through each of the Louisiana city parks, ending at the Riverfront. Design a team for this 5 leg race and sign up now! Pre-registration deadline is June 20. Call (573) 754-4497 for more information.

August 19 - Bluegrass Concert 7:00 pm Louisiana Riverfront.
